Sue Johnson, author of “Love Sense”

Sue Johnson, author of “Love Sense”, placed on her website a song by Christina Aguilera that I thought captures the essence of what EFT therapy tries to facilitate when couples are in distress and desperately wanting to find a way back towards each other. It is so moving, I wanted to share this video with my clients… it shows the sadness and desperation when the way back to being a couple becomes so painful.

As an EFT therapist, this kind of pain is so real between the couples that they reach out to me for help. Couples need a trained therapist who can help them to walk through the pain and risk reaching out for each other once again. All behaviors can make sense when we take the time to slow down to hear each other’s pain and reflect on how to be present for each other. Once repairs are made, the restoration of that security and the ability to show love towards each other returns. We help each other to overcome the hurt and risk showing love even while we are still in the process of trying to understand each other. Sometimes the pathway back goes slowly when the pain has gone on for years, but many times relief is felt after only a few therapy sessions. Until the positive pathway back towards loving communication and understanding becomes clearer and clearer to the couple by thorough exploration of the deeper meaning and needs they have for each other within our therapy sessions, then the couple will be able to reach for each other and love more deeply during their own private moments.
